MS Research: hope and progress

Welcome to our page about MS Research. As someone who lives with MS, I understand the importance of hope and progress. Here, we share the most significant areas of research and what this could mean for you. We are committed to transparency and honest information. Join us and discover how you can contribute to a better future for everyone living with MS.

Key research areas

Three important areas of research currently stand out:

  1. Remyelination and tissue repair: Research into repairing myelin or forming new myelin. This is crucial because current treatments do not fully repair damage. Note: repair is complex and not all damage is equally repairable.
  2. Blood and imaging biomarkers/personalized treatment: Accurately mapping who develops which form of MS and which treatment is most effective. Innovative imaging and computer models are used to better predict disease activity. Note: biomarker research is technically complex and requires large data sets.
  3. New drugs/immunotherapies: New therapies that target other parts of the disease process. For example, BTK inhibitors are showing promising results. Please note: some forms of MS still have few effective options, and new drugs may fill this gap.
